A Few Words about Billiken...
I was reading my boy AWood's Blog last night. He says he has lost some of his passion for posting on his site. He said that blogs aren't all that important, and that they are only read by a handful of the writer's friends. I agree completely, but I don't think that means that they are pointless.
I don't claim that The Billiken's Bluff will solve the Pythagoreon Theorem (I'll leave that to Shaq O'Neill a.k.a. The Big Aristotle). Nor do I think this site will fix the ozone layer (I'll leave that to Dead Prez). But with all the jimillikens running amok in the world at the present time it helps me keep a handle on things. It acts as a filter for the excess of information flooding in from cyber space. And most importantly it makes my laugh a little every now and then.
Awood did give The Bluff a nice compliment:
The Billken's Bluff came along and I really saw how weblogs should be run. My homeboy Gotim has an
army of writers posting on topics as diverse as the white-trash restaurant chain Cracker Barrell to rappers
like dead prez and Talib Kweli using the word cracker. This made me realize, that I can't go it alone on the
HoT.
With that said, AWood's post got me thinking. He lamented that his page "has been dominated by two things: rappers getting in trouble with the law and basketball players going nuts on the court." If I had to make a similar summation of The Bluff, I don't think I'd be able to pinpoint what our focus is. I think part of the reason for this is that we have a number of people who post on the site. But I do think we need some sort of focus, a mission statement if you will. When I started this site I wanted to focus on sports, pop culture, and most importantly Andre 3000. Rico has a link to The Bluff in his profile that describes this site as News and Pop Culture with a twist. I like that, but that pretty much covers everything under the sun. So if anyone has any thoughts on this....
But if nothing else The Bluff has enlightened a few to the merits and magic of this little guy.
Hey N. Dot, Rico, and Gotim I sure will be missing you guys. Always Remember to keep your ear to the street and your eye on the prize.
