Hello, my name is Quddus and I'd like to buy a vowel
Yesterday, Rico expressed his reflections (eternal) on the Kanye West concert.
He was pretty tough on Kanye and Pace University. Apparently MTV.com had a different take on the concert. In fact, if you just went on MTV's review of the show alone, you might be led to believe that Thursday's Pace concert was a pivotal moment in Kanye's on-stage development. It was average at best. The only explanation I can think of for such an undeserved review, is that MTV's own, Quddus, hosted the show.
When I bought the ticket I didn't care that Quddus was hosting the show. I didn't care that he hosted TRL, or that he is boys with Carson Daly, or that he is Canadian (I kid, I kid, I love Canadiens). But surprisingly enough, he turned out to be the featured celebrity in the show. True, it was a Kanye West concert, but Quddus was on stage for most of the night. His job was to quell the blood thirsty crowd, who wanted to know why the hell it was 12:30 am (the concert that started at 8:00pm) and Kanye still was nowhere to be found. He placated the audience by exchanging pleasantries with girls, who strutted up and down the 'runway' during the pseudo-fashion show. Yea girl why don't you back that thing up! Alright! When that got old, he turned to Dave Chappelle material. When the crowd started to yell, to clamor, to protest, The Big Q would give it his best Lil' John/Dave Chappelle Whaaaatttt? Oooookkkk! Yeaaaa! . Quddus clearly has a handle on the pop culture lexicon. And when all else failed, he turned to none other than me, TheGotofAllGots. The crowd was yelling for Kanye and Quddus decided to call me out and see what insight I could offer to the situation.
Quddus: "Hey you back there, in the green shirt, with the crew cut." (For the record I do not have a crew cut, although he was quite right I was wearing a green shirt)
Gotim: "Who me?"
Quddus: "Yea you. Are you ready to see Kanye West?"
Gotim: "I was born ready Quddus!"
He had a tough job, and earned whatever money they gave him for his appearance. He is definately one of the hardest working men in show biz. It is hard, damn work keeping a crowd of Pace students at bay for over 4 hours.
However I can't see Quddus hitting the big time unless he adds a couple more vowels in his name.
